The 1879 Pub Company came about following a discussion about how bad the service and beer was in a pub on the outskirts of Smethwick between two close friends - Boota and Bingsy .

The conversation then led to someone suggesting to them, "Well why don't you buy and run pubs if you think you can do it any better!" They both looked at each other and said, "Why not?" It was from here 1879 Pub Co. was born. As after any birth it was time to pick a name. Having took a step back and looked at what was out there and everything from 'X' Inns to 'X' Taverns, with nothing really standing out.

After much deliberation we eventually decided on 1879 as this was the year West Bromwich Albion F.C. were founded. As two season ticket holders - home and away - this was our shared passion and something we really wanted to carry over into the business.
